Leigh Academy, Blackheath

Value - £19m | Client - Bouygues UK

The development of a new academy to accommodate 900 secondary school pupils and a 250 place sixth form facility, located on the site of a former secondary school.

We were appointed by Bouygues UK as their preferred civil and structural engineering consultant on this project.

A key feature of the school is a central courtyard that provides an internal amenity space. There is also a sports hall and the main assembly hall with auditorium seating.

The form of construction is primarily a structural steel frame superstructure with precast floors supported on a network of ground beams and pad foundations.

The external works comprised hard and soft landscaping, an access road, parking and a multi-use games area.

We designed the below-ground drainage to full SUDS standards, incorporating attenuation.

The building also includes dedicated social spaces, for use by local residents, groups and clubs, creating a hub for the local community.
