This exciting and challenging project was the Industrial Projects winner at the recent UK Tekla Software Awards 2021, having been submitted by steel construction specialists, Robinson Structures, in the Public Choice Awards.

The awards create an opportunity to showcase projects modelled using Tekla software within the UK and Ireland. They recognise and promote the skill, expertise, innovation, and pride that Tekla users put into their work.

Clancy undertook the detailed design of the complex steel frame superstructure, working with Robinson Structures who undertook the fabrication of the structural steelwork. Clancy provided full Civil and Structural Engineering design service on this highly complex building at CEMEX's site in Rugby, Warwickshire.

The building was designed as a single span braced steel structure with roof trusses, machinery across multiple levels, cranes and a basement.  The multi-level structure will accommodate various plant and machinery, enabling CEMEX to expand their facilities for the production of concrete materials and also supplies them with a new Climafuel storage building.

Climafuel is a waste derived fuel, made using household residual and commercial waste, therefore substantially reducing what it sent to landfill. CEMEX use this as an alternative to fossil fuels at all three of it’s UK cement plants.

Chris Acton, Clancy Consulting Director, commented, “This complex project was achieved through collaborative working with the team, using BIM and the Tekla software. We’re proud to have been involved with this prestigious award-winning scheme for CEMEX, and working with a like-minded business with a clear focus on sustainable value.”

The project will now be entered in the prestigious 2022 Global Tekla Awards.
