A new, state-of-the-art Aerospace Innovation Centre in Prestwick for Spirit AeroSystems.

This is a new, state-of-the-art Aerospace Innovation Centre in Prestwick for Spirit AeroSystems, who design and build aerostructures for both commercial and defence customers around the world.

The scheme involved the delivery of a production area and two-storey office accommodation, incorporating a glazed façade to the front entrance, along with associated parking.

The team was appointed to provide civil and structural engineering design services for all aspects of the project.

From inception, the project continually evolved, on a tight timeline, and a key issue in the development was to react quickly to changes. This was achieved through regular discussion and collaboration directly with the client and design team members, all with whom we developed strong working relationships.

Site investigations were coordinated to identify any anomalies within the site due to previous buildings being present.  A fairly high water table was encountered, however through careful consideration of the findings we were able to demonstrate that the building could be supported on conventional foundations, thereby providing the client with cost savings.

Testimonial:

“Working within a fully industrialised operational facility, and in close proximity to a live airport, meant that special consideration had to be given to the contractor’s site operations and constraints.”
